California peaches, plums and nectarines—your source for late summer promotions!

Savor the Summer!

August 4, 2008-California peaches, plums and nectarines are summertime favorites that aren´t just for summer anymore! Approximately 40% of this season´s production will be harvested from August to October, which means there are plenty of supplies available for your Back to School and September promotions. Plus, with Labor Day coming early, your customers will want to savor the taste of summer. Continue your peach, plum and nectarine promotions after the holiday and get the most out of the category.

Early season IRI scan data indicates many retailers have increased prices this year and as a result have seen a decrease in their total dollars and volume. On the other hand, retailers who promote the category saw an increase in both dollars and volume. For example, one region decreased the average category price by 8.1% from last year, and have seen a 10.4% increase in volume. Ultimately… promotions work.

The season is expected to produce a total of 56.5 million boxes, and with excellent eating quality and favorable sizes it is a perfect year to promote fresh California stone fruit! To make it easy for stone fruits to be featured, CTFA has created over 50 ready-made, customizable, price point ads and advertorials, along with four different radio spots. These files are available— Free! Just visit our download center at www.eatcaliforniafruit.com.
